Rhetorical or Sometimes you feel like a Reeses'

I want to get back in to creating mixed media pieces. Some small assemblage pieces. I have been accumulating little small found pieces and objects lately that I feel fit together quite well. I really want to get back in to the habit of creating art on a regular basis again. I have kind of gotten too comfortable in this lackadaisical way of living, I mean now and then I will doodle or draw a little something but I haven’t done anywhere near a significant body of work in almost 2 years! That’s no way for an artist to live. I mean sure I have faced some hardships and uncertainties but that’s no excuse. Artists are supposed to thrive during adversity. So why haven’t I? That’s a rhetorical question. It was meant to invoke thought in to my head as I type this post.

I tend to get too stuck in a rut or worried up creating the perfect image or crank out the best possible image that I almost entirely forget about the artistic processes. I forget that ugly line or ugly section eventually turns in to something you can use or not. Either way, you go right back to the drawing board (pun, intended) and work on the next thing.

It really all boils down to having confidence in your work. It’s so easy to see other artist out there cranking out work and thinking to yourself, what am I doing wrong or what am I not doing right?? The question should be why am I, not doing PERIOD!!!

I went from consistently coming up with ideas to consistently getting caught up in the idea of not being able to come up with any good ideas. How do you resolve those types of issues in your head when you have other issues going on in your head?

Pure Munny Hunny...

Quick post faithful few...I did get a chance to work on my other piece this week. It's in the very, very, very early stages but I thought I'd still show you guys what I was working on. Hopefully next week I have a more polished image for you guys.

Nubian or the beginning of something NU...

As promised faithful few, here are a few sketches/studies I have been working on. They are still kind of raw and I'm still working on some things with them but I love that I'm back problem-solving again. I will keep you guys updated on my progress. Maybe a series will come out of this. Who knows.

The Eye

So this week I present a video for your viewing pleasure. I was a little perturbed at how iMovie was handling my video clips so I abandoned the project and just used YouTube's video editor to put the clips together to make one video. So without further ado...

Just a little update...

So today I officially sold my first piece of unfinished work.  Now its not going to stay unfinished but as it stands now its in an unfinished state. It felt oddly strange yet refreshing to be compensated for something that will fir sure change before its done. Its as if my buyer has so much faith in what I'm doing that they just know they will be getting a masterpiece.

I totally stand by myself as an artist no matter how successful or unsuccessful I am at this junction in my life but its extra special for me to have someone other than the missus and family/friends have faith in what I am doing as an artist. Hopefully next weekend I will have a finished piece to share with you guys. If not next week, the week after that for sure.

A Weekly Update...

So this piece I am working on is due a week from Monday I believe. I am the furthest along of anyone but I haven't worked on it in a couple of weeks now. I just haven't made the time to work on it. Maybe I'll finish it tomorrow who knows. I did find out information that I already knew about it but forgot. I was think that it was a cash prize but it's actually a product prize which now that I think about it is still a good idea. I just need to get it done.

I want to start a couple of I don't know series of sketches soon. I have all this images in my head. Some of them are just rough sketches and some of them are fully realized drawings. I just don't know what they mean. It's like in my head there is this therapy session going on but I am having this issue with committing them to paper. It's not like a block or anything its more like a defense mechanism to thwart out intruders (the masses). I guess it's one of those things that I need to deal with right? In any event, when I release them you will be among the first to know.
