This Week...

Today I went out for a walk... A sort of walkabout if you will. I didn't have any 70s or 80s music playing as I was doing it but I did snap a few photogs. Some landscapes and some scenic or not so scenic nature scenes. I'm going to go through them over the next few days and see which ones I feel are worthy of posting.

I will definitely share them with you guys. I also have been keeping up with sketching/journaling in my sketchbook everyday. It's been just a little bit over 3 weeks. I am darn right proud of myself.

I just wanted to let you guys know what I have been up to the past week. That's all I have for you guys this weekend.

Until next week...

Greatness has to be continually cultivated...

I have been working in my sketchbook everyday this year so far. I have really gotten into the habit of just pulling it out and working in it.

I have told myself that I need to treat it more like a creative journal. So the days that I don't sketch in it, I just put down my thoughts or I brainstorm. It's a pretty good feeling to start something and stick with it. Now if I can get the rest of my life to go this good. The Struggle is real. That's it for now folks. I will get up with you guys next week. Also on a big note, I'll be a year older then.

Until next week...

Accountability helps...

I failed you guys this week. I have nothing to show...zilch...nada...zero.....I did pull my sketchbook out and tomorrow between my job hunting and resting I will be drawing in my sketchbook.

My art accountability partner told me something this week that I totally forgot about sketchbooks. She told me I just need to draw. Even if I don't like what comes out...just DRAW. It also doesn't help that every week she is showing me something new that she started or finished LOL. But that's what accountability partners are for. Well that's it for this week.

Until next week...

The Week that Was...

So another week down,  another week coming up. I am actually starting to lose track of these weeks. I mean did you guys know that this week coming up is the last  full week of August! Wow...

I am going to try and get back into my sketchbook very soon. Me and one of my ex-coworkers are trying to be each other's accountability partners when it comes to art. Trying to make sure that no matter what struggle we are having that we are still as artist creating. You guys know I have been having issues lately with producing work. I'm hoping this jump-starts my creativity. What ever I do in my sketchbook, I will definitely share with you guys. Well that's all I have for you guys this weekend.

Until next week...

Nubian or the beginning of something NU...

As promised faithful few, here are a few sketches/studies I have been working on. They are still kind of raw and I'm still working on some things with them but I love that I'm back problem-solving again. I will keep you guys updated on my progress. Maybe a series will come out of this. Who knows.

Until next week...

Time was definitely on my side or The 8th Horcrux...

Today...on a rare Saturday off day, I worked in one of my sketchbooks. I did a few doodles and quick studies. Nothing that held a lot of weight but it did feel good to just devote time to my sketchbook. The great thing about what I did today was that I planned for it. As an artist I should be spending a lot of time in my sketchbook, it just seems lately that I haven't done that.

So I figured if I try to manage my time more wisely than I can stay focused and on track. Who knew that it would work, lol. I am really trying to make sure I am all about time management. As I have talked about plenty of times here, it always seem to get the better of me. But...I feel I can defeat father time...maybe I shouldn't say defeat...how about play times game with it...if i can some how cross-reference time with the reverse of the inverse...lol...That was a bit crazy there. Just still feeling the high of my positive use of time today. I just need to buckle down and keep myself on track and use everything at my disposal to make that happen. That's all folks.

Until next week...

First post of the New Year or Exactly one week before my birthday...

You ever have one of those moments when your entire week as an artist is noncreative? Where it seemed like you wasn't doing anything worthwhile but just trying to make the week go by faster... That was the gist of my week this past week. I didn't really feel creative, I just felt like blah! Everything just seems to be coming at once. It gets to be overwhelming sometimes when you are going through this juggling act with life. At times I feel as though I am in a great place artistically and then other times I feel like I'm in some weird holding pattern.
My problem is getting the thought out of my head and on to the drawing board. I have so many things going on concurrently and none of them are coming to full fruition. I think my brain needs a rest. I mean I've had a vacation and I'm about to go away next week on a little mini vacation for my birthday (Oh yeah! I am about to get a little bit older...) but I think lately or I should say for awhile I have asked a lot of my brain. I need to be in a place where I can just let my brain spend time with itself collecting and releasing its inner thoughts.
I mean every week I am here taking with you guys, my faith few and I let the thoughts flow from my mind but during the week save from tweeting now and then (shameless plug inserted here... Find me @artstarv9), I don't spend a lot of time de-junkifying and purging my think parts of information and ideas. So what happens sometimes is I'll get this great idea one moment and the next moment it becomes the fleeting idea that I wasn't as excited about as I thought.
I need to find the middle ground, that sweet spot, where I am able to have my thoughts and then put them to good use creatively. I know what your thinking, that's what sketchbooks are for (Man, I've used a lot of commas and parentheses in this post) It seems like an simple easy fix but in someways its not. You have to have your mind free and focused on using your sketchbook as a means of release and not just sketches. Your sketchbook then not only becomes an extension of your work but also a sort of idea book. A book where you can not down your craziest thoughts or your darkest thoughts. Which in retrospect make that sketchbook quite personal and I someways not fit for public consumption. There are people who teach and people who believe in keeping sketchbooks like that. Books where you don't share with anyone. I personally find it hard to keep sketchbooks like that because I'd get to a place where is just have to show somebody what I sketched out or have to show my close personal friends or loved ones what I just did. Who knows though, I might give it a go just to see if I can do it.
Well, I feel like I am about to start rambling so I'm going to end this post here. Next week, I'll either blog earlier in the week or come to you guys while I am a way. Until then...

Sketching and stuff or something like it...

I started my sketchbook this week for the Sketchbook Project and so far so good.  I started with one idea but as I was walking around the mall yesterday I came up with the perfect idea.  Once I get a few more sketches done, I will share with you guys.  Its a pretty good idea for what it is.

This was also my first week of my vacation.  I have enjoyed the time away from work.  I didn't do what I initially planned but I have enjoyed myself nonetheless.  I look forward to my next week of vacation.  You know sometimes you need a complete break from it all.  Its like pushing a reset button on you life.  Everyone should do it now and then.

I also haven't forgotten about the other blog Ive been working on.  I just haven't gotten around to finishing it yet.  Its still coming soon.  I might have if finished by next week in time for my next post.  Until then...

Crunch Time

Hey there happy people. How was you guys New Year? How did the rest of your week go. Mine was ok, I sat at home sick from Quiznos veggie sub (Ugh, never again) but I did manage to watch the ball drop in Times Square and take a couple of shots of gin;-) I swear one year I am going to get to NY for New Years' (That felt like Deja Vu)

Its getting close to my deadline for this sketchbook. I have to have it.postmarked a week from today but I will have it done before that. Hopefully by my birthday on Wednesday:-) Yes my blogospherian friends this blogger next week will celebrate a birthday. I am looking forward to it. I don't know what it is but I always get up for my birthday. I am always extremely excited about my bday. Now I just have to beat this cold I have before that AMAZING day. Happy New Year...

So I thought that I would have already posted my blog for you guys this week since I only really posted a quick blurb last week. Well as you all may know things don't always work out the way you want them to. Fret not faithful few this week I have come bearing a cornucopia of into and goodies.

So I told myself that this year I was not going to make any resolutions. Instead I have decided to just stay the course. I mean last year I started so many new things and changed so many things during the year that making a "New Years' Resolution" would just seem plain...well crazy! I probably somewhere along the way just end up deviating from the resolutions anyway. I know what your probably saying now, "...you can use the resolution as a jump off point..." Well everyone who knows me will tell you I am a little different(strange even) so I find it perfectly OK to forgo the conformist tradition of making a "New Years' Resolutions."

Its January and that means that by the 15Th of this month I have to have my sketchbook for ArtHouse Co-Op Sketchbook Project postmarked. Its coming along OK but I know i am going to end up having some late night sessions working on it. I also got to get stepping on writing this essay for my Teach for America application. That's not due until Feb. 4, knowing me I should start writing it tomorrow;)

Today I did a painting! It is a painting that I titled before I started it. The title of the painting is: You Said I Was PRETTY No Matter What They whole concept behind this painting is a play on words. I have taken a simple word and deconstructed its meaning. It also brings to mind the say "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder." As I worked on the painting, I removed my inner feelings on what I viewed as pretty and I also tried not to think too much about if people would get the message behind the title and behind painting itself. So without further ado I will reveal the work in question to you.
