Beginning of new work...

Hello faithful few, this is my last post of the year(maybe). I thought I would come through and post a picture of one of my secret but now not so secret works of art. I call it Copper Goddess. It is one of many that I plan on working on. Here is a picture of it:

I plan on seeing how far I can go with this subject matter. I look forward to keeping you guys informed as to my progress. That's all i have for you guys this week, so have a safe and Happy New Year's.

A few things...

Hello faithful few, it's that lovely time again. I just realized this past week that I have been coming to you guys every week for over a year now! When I undertook this task of writing a weekly blog, I at the time could not imagine that I would be doing this consistently. Not that I didn't believe in myself but I started this blog to help me get focused on my work. To see if I could wholeheartedly commit to a project and do it on a weekly basis. In keeping up this blog for over a year, I have succeeded in doing just that. How do you like that!

In the coming weeks, my page is going to be going through some changes. Not necessarily wholesale changes but changes nonetheless. I really look forward to share with you guys the new changes. That's all I have for you guys today.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

End of the year project...

Hello faithful few, its that time of the week again. This week I am posting a really, really short post but I just wanted to show you guys a couple of sketches. These are just some sketches to show you where I am leaning towards my approach to our first black president. There will be more to come in the coming weeks.

Sorry about the contrast of the pictures people but they were light sketches so I had to darken them a little. That's all for this week though.

Obama-mania?

Hello faithful few. I come to you this weekend a bit tired but relaxed. My thought for this post is the Obama craze or the aptly named "Obama-mania." I wonder as an artist should I get caught up in the fray or should I just sit back an just enjoy the moment. I mean just about everyday I am seeing someone bring in a print or I am looking through a newspaper or magazine or someone has a shirt on that is in our president-elects' likeness. Today this guy came into my job and he had this guy who was really inebriated. So this guy starts babbling on about how good the dude was, how he had drew Obama, Dr. King and Kennedy in front of the white house. I am sure some of you guys have seen the Sheppard Fairey posters of Obama. I believe those prints will become about as popular as Al Pacino as Scarface lounging in his desk chair or the I want you Uncle Sam posters. I am wondering if this is going to end up being overkill. If pretty soon you will be able to go into Wal-Mart and find all of these cheesy framed prints of our next president.

I wonder if I should be doing some Obama drawings or some Obama paintings. Should I jump on that bandwagon? Should I buy into the whole craze at the risk of being kitschy? I don't know yet. I think I have to think on it more before I jump into the foray.

That's all I have for you guys this week.

Until next week sometime, namaste and stay strong...

A few things...

Hello faithful few, its that wonderful time of the week. When you guys come and check out whats going on in my world. Well I have a few things for you guys today.

I am still working on my top secret project so I don't have anything for you guys yet on that front. But next week I will have some pictures of some of my sketches and drawings that I am working on for you guys.

I was wondering if I should change the description of my blog. I mean I say its a random weekly blog but it seems that lately save for a couple of posts I have been only posting on Saturdays. What do you guys think?

We are 59 days away from the presidential inauguration and I am excited. It will finally be official at that time. I will hopefully be in attendance for this historical occasion. I can hardly wait to hear him take the presidential oath. Where will you be when it happens!

That's all I have for you guys this week and if I don't come to you before Thursday, I hope you guys have a safe and great Thanksgiving!

What

Hello faithful few, How are you guys feeling? I am feeling good I believe. Just got back to work yesterday from a weeks' vacation and I am already ready for another one. LOL.

I didn't dedicate too much time to art but I am working on a top secret art project now. I can't speak about it now because like I said its top secret. Shhh! When I am done I will let you guys in on it. It will be well worth the secrecy.

I am also going to be working on a series of drawings soon and I will be able to definitely tell you guys about it as soon as I start it. This is a very short post this week but I promise you guys I am going to get more engaging in the coming weeks.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Yes we did...

Hello faithful few...Wow! We did it. We really did it. We elected an African-American to the highest position in our country. We elected Barack Hussein Obama, president. I am excited and really happy. I am glad that I got to see in my lifetime, a black president. We are in the thralls of history now. Sure he has inherited a mess of a country and we probably won't really see too many changes right away. But give him a year or so into his administration, we will begin to make great strides.

That's all I have for you this week, but I just had to come in and let you know how thrilled I am to have been apart of history.

Until next week sometime, namaste and stay strong...

The final weekend...

Hello faithful few, it's that time again. I know some posts back I mentioned being done with talking about the election, so this weeks post is going to be short one. It will be a short one because I can't think of anything to talk about bigger than this monumental election. I figured I would do this post here and implore you guys to vote this coming Tuesday. Let your voice be heard. Also be careful when voting, after you vote for your candidate of choice, make sure you take your time voting on the many referendums and propositions that you will have to vote on as well.

That's all have for you guys this week.

November looms...

Hello faithful few, welcome to another week of yours truly, The Incomparable Artist! I mailed in my absentee ballot this past week so I have officially voted for The Obama-Biden ticket. I am beginning new work, so that's a good thing. Now if I could only get this financial thing down pat. LOL! This week I have a treat for you guys. So here goes.

November Looms

As November looms-
The leaves turn a little warmer in color
and the temperature turns a little cooler

We are on the cusp or something special;
either a black president
or a female vice president

We soon will be giving thanks
and with the economy where its at-
maybe welcoming the blackest black Friday

As November looms,
the shift begins to turn-
towards my birthday in January!

Well I do hope you guys enjoyed that. That's all I have for you guys this post.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Hola mi amigos...

Hello faithful few, How are you guys doing today? Its that lovely time of the week again. That time where you take time out of your busy schedule to catch up on what I am doing. I know you guys look forward to this! Anyway let's get on with it.

I am happy to be creating again. It feels real good. This week coming up I plan on working on some new work including sculpture. Its been awhile since I have done any sculpture so I am pretty excited about that. I can't wait to see what comes out of it. Well I think that's all I have for you guys this week. I know its a pretty light post this week but I just wanted to get straight to the point this week.

Another week, another post...

Hello faithful few, its that time again. Post time! I hope you guys had a great week.

Another week has come and gone and I am kind of excited and antsy. I have to put my work in the mail by Monday so I can get this work to NC for this show. Don't worry I will show you guys images of the work. You won't be left in the dust without a mask so you choke on all the airborne chemicals that float by...LOL...I am just messing with you guys. But I will show you the work, I promise!

After this one, I have to start working on work for this show here. The show here is based on places that I have traveled to and want people to experience it through my eyes. Which for me means that my work is more than likely going to involve Chicago and New York, which up until this point in my life are my favorite places to go to. I am, maybe doing one of these places for my birthday next year. (Only 3 months from tomorrow people) The deadline for that show is November 10Th, so I am definitely starting to brainstorm for ideas. That's all I have for you guys this week.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Exactly 1 month away...

Hello faithful few. Its that time again. Today, we are exactly one month away from the presidential elections. I hope you guys out there are registered to vote and plan on voting that day. Enough of that let's get down to the good stuff.

This week coming up is going to be crunch time for me. I have 2 deadlines coming up (Oct 15 and first week in Nov.) that I have to meet. The deadline that is the 15Th is for a show in NC on the 31st. I have little sketches here and there but I need to get some definitive work going on that one. I plan on submitting at least 3 pieces. I believe 3 is a good number.

The deadline for the first week in November is for a show here in MD. If I am chosen for this show it will be the first time in a while that I have done a show here. I have mainly been doing shows out of state. So I am kind of looking forward to it.

I have also been trying to get into the whole ATC (Artist Trading Card) craze. Its kind of a fun thing to get into and it is getting very popular.

These last couple of months will be fun for me. I am going to really devote myself to creating some good work for you guys. I am going to begin to post images of my new work as it develops as well as dedicating my blog again to art. Its been great talking with you guys about politics but I don't want to get to caught up into too much politicking in my blog. Thats all I have for you this week.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Weeks away...

Hello faithful few...its that time again. We are mere weeks away from the presidential election. Mere weeks until we will find out if we voted for change or voted for Neo-Bushism. Oh that "Maverick!"

We have had 8 years of a republican ran white house. It is definitely time for a change. I tried to watch the debates but it was hard. It sounded more like a "he started it first" type of debate. I mean why does this guy keep talking about his pen? "...I've got a pen. This one's kind of old. I've got a pen, and I'm going to veto every single spending bill that comes across my desk. I will make them famous. You will know their names." Oh that "Maverick!" How many times do we have to hear this lame line. It sounds as if they are two school kids and he got beat so now he is going to go and tell his teacher like a little baby. Next Thursday is going to be great we get to see his running mate in a debate with Obama's running mate. This should be good. Any way, I am going to get off of this topic before I continue on and sound like I am angry. That is all I have for you guys this week. Next week I am going back to talking to you guys about my work.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Partisan

Hello faithful few, its that time again. This week we go slightly political.

I chose not to get caught up into partisan politics! When I was young in the mind politically, I believed in right and wrong. I believed in debating both sides of the argument.

In middle school in my American government class when we would have mock elections, I jumped at the role of the republican. I mean how could you have a mock election and not have every party involved. I lived for playing devil's advocate. When I was old enough to vote I registered as a republican. My friends would always ask me why would I do that. They would say you're not rich, why are you a republican.

It wasn't until some years later, as I grew in mind politically, I started to understand how partisan and bipartisan politics work. I begin to look at the issues equally from both sides of the political spectrum. I realized that both were speaking the some good things.

I figured that is was time for me to rethink my political involvement. I switched my voting status to independent. Its funny just now I realized that I have never been a democrat. Imagine that! I feel as though for us to truly stabilize our country and our economy we must have a truly bipartisan government. We have good candidates out there. I mean my man Obama, I feel will do wonders for this country as far as changing and shaking up the way things work in this country. I will vote for Obama but not because he is a democrat but because I believe in him and what he will do for this country. I do believe that until there is a truly bipartisan candidate our country will always go through the same economic, educational, and turmoil issues that we have had centuries. What's sad is that we will probably never see that in our or our grand kids generation.

The Tao of I

Hello faithful few, it that time again. This week I am just going to talk a little about my artist practice.

Alot of times I start out by figuring out what I want to talk about. What am I trying to convey? What do I want my work to say? Sometimes it may come from something that I have read or something that I have seen. It may come from an experience I have had or a moment that I have experienced. Other times I just feel motivation overcome me and I can't but help to be creative.

I try to read alot and research alot about the subject matter that I tackle. Sometimes its personal sometimes its not but when I do tackle it I try to be well informed. I feel that being well inform helps me to focus more and helps me to bring more out of my work. It gives it more meaning I feel. When I create I try to pour all of my emotion into it whether it be positive or negative. Sometimes I will work on a piece for months at a time but I always have another piece going in the interim. I don't "finish" a piece until it is no longer speaking to me.

All in all, I am have been content with the way I do things and I am always trying to find other ways to better my artist way. Well that's all I have for you guys this week.

Until sometime next week, namaste and stay strong...

Election 2008 Part 1

Hello faithful few, its that time again. This week I am going to talk to you about the upcoming election.

Last week we celebrated the 45th anniversary of Dr. King's famous I have a dream speech (August 28, 1963) and it was also the 53rd anniversary of the horrendous murder of Emmitt Till, (who was a 14 year old black boy who was killed by two Mississippi men for whistling at a white girl). On last thursday the actual date 45 years to the day we officially had Barack Obama receive the democratic nomination. While it was history making, it is far from getting us where we need to be. In-fighting and dissension with in the democratic party may prove to be the downfall of their campaign. Over at the Republican Camp, John McCain is setting himself up to what I would call a superpower move. He goes out and choose as his running mate a first term governor(who hasn't even been in politics that long) who some view as an up-and-comer, Sarah Palin of Alaska. I view it as a ploy to steer Clinton supporters toward giving their vote to the McCain-Palin ticket. You have McCain saying, "hey I will select a woman as my running mate that should persuade people who felt as though Hilary was wronged in being passed over when Obama chose Joseph Biden." I believe he also figured like I stated earlier that she is an up-and-comer in the political realm like Barack. So Here McCain has the best or both worlds while still pushing his "liberal" republican values on us all. This country is ready for change and we do need it, I just think with that change we also need a new party running the country. McCain, while breaking with his party on a numerous issues( the countries use of torture on terrorism and sponsoring an immigration bill with Ted Kennedy)but after you get underneath it all McCain is just playing a wolf in sheep's clothing.
We need to focus on strategies and change which will help us with health care, education, employment and our so-called wars on an ideals (see: terrorism and drugs). Barack embodies change, a change we rightful and deservedly need. Like he said on last thursday, "America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this." This the time for us to act. The time for us to accept that we need a change. That we cannot nor should we settle for a candidate in McCain who may bring a change from "Bushanomincs 201" albeit a slight change. It would be like a radical approach from the Republican Party but still under the mantra and name of the Republican Party. We as a country do not need a president who likes to break from his party as if to say I am a republican but I don't agree with their politics or the other guys politics. It would in my opinion come off as someone who would view himself as more of a dictator or ruler rather than someone who champions his/herself as a leader of the people. I am behind Barack Obama 100% because in my mind he is right for us right now. In my my honest opinion though in my mind we will not truly be whole as a country until we have a true bipartisan candidate. Until that time I will continue believing in what is right for us now and the immediate future. I will come, this November 4th, punch the Obama-Biden ticket so our country can begin its ascension into a more harmonious and very eventful "Changing" of the guard.

Obama

Hello faithful few, its that time again. This week's post will be really short and sweet. Next week I will bring to you guys some very good thought provoking food for thought. I just wanted to let you guys know that I was extremely moved by Obama's acceptance speech and I am glad that I have had the oppurtunity to live to see this happen in my lifetime.

Why???

Hello faithful few. How is everyone doing today? I hope all is well with you guys. Last week I talked to you guys about going to school and getting my rear in gear. I am still all about that but today I find myself amazed at how simple things can affect us in such adverse ways.

Today one of my buttons on my remote stopped working. One button. Its not at all that serious but for some reason I could not and can not shake the feeling I am having about it just randomly stop working. I mean I used it yesterday and it worked just fine. Now today it wants to just cease to functioning.

I focused on it for awhile and tried to come up with some sort of solution as to why. I also tried to remedy the problem but to no avail. I finally relegated myself to the fact that it is what it is. I am awestruck as to why something like this could get the best of me. Does these things happen because we pride ourselves so much on how strong we are mentally? How much we know? How much we have learned in our lifetime that sometimes simple things such as why a button doesn't work or where our other sock went bothers us to the Nth degree. It kind makes the whole "...how many to screw in a light bulb" joke relevant. I know what you might be thinking, "where is this coming from?" But this post I just needed to air this out so I could let it go. Next week I will have a normal, more engaging post for you guys.

Hey

Hello faithful few, its that time again. Well its almost that time again, when schools begin or go back in session. I am hope that this time next year I will finally have myself in some one's grad school. I really believe that I need this for myself. I need to get my act together so I can finally achieve my second collegiate goal. I think it will happen because I want it. I mean I really want it.

I have been looking at schools in the south and the midwest. I have heard from people that I know and former professors that schools in the midwest and the south are great places to attend grad school. I now need to research more of these schools and probably visit a couple and maybe try getting in contact with some department heads and see what they look for in a portfolio. I have been working on mine but I really need to tighten it up. I want to be able to present a cohesive and substantial body of work to these schools. So I really need to get cracking.

Next week I may have some pics of some new work or sketches for you guys, OK.

Void

Hello faithful few. Its that time again. I had alot to talk you about but I am not going to talk about it today. Instead I am going to save it for another post and reserve this space for a more somber note. I am devoting this space to the memory of Bernie Mac who passed away this morning at the age of 50 due to complications of pneumonia.

Friendship

Hello faithful few, its that lovely, lovely time again! This week I want to take a departure from my normal ramblings and talk to you about friendships or more importantly friends. I am not going to talk too much about it because I don't want it to end up being long and drawn out. But I am going to devote a smidgen of time to it.

Websters
defines friend as: 1 a- one attached to another by affection or esteem 2 b- acquaintance

I pride myself on being a good friend but more than often I find myself engaged in discourses about my worth as a friend and/or how good a friend I am. Like I said I consider myself a good friend but by no means does that mean nor do I equate that to mean that I am a perfect friend. For as we all know and are aware of; NO ONE IS PERFECT! Its only in these certain situations that my true loyalty as a friend is called into question. I really try to do right by my friends at the risk of not trying to change who I am or compromise my own integrity. Its only so much you can do to keep up your end of the friendship. Only so far you can go. Only so far you can go to reach a compromise or a resolution to you disagreements. I guess sometimes, its just meant to be that friends dissipate from time to time only to either come together in a stronger bond or truly move on.

That's all I have for now. I told you guys that I didn't want to draw this out so I am going to leave on that note.

Blah, Blah, Blah and ETC......

Hello faithful few, its that wonderful time again! How was every ones week? Mine was OK. Nothing too big happened. I did try a new painting method which is awesome and pretty soon I will have a picture to post for you guys to see what I have discovered. I just can't show it to you guys yet. Its a surprise!

I have in recent weeks been looking at different grad schools in the south and the Midwest. I really want to get my butt back into school so I can work towards my masters. It has been exactly 5 years since I graduated from college, I think that's been a long enough layoff, LOL. I hope to have more for you sometime next week good people. That's all for now.

Hola, mi amigos!

Hello faithful few, it is that glorious time again. I had a wonderful week this week. I went yesterday to see The Dark Knight and if you are into that sort of thing I highly recommend it. Heath Ledger's turn at The Joker was masterful. He played a very good Joker. If you are REALLY into that sort of thing, you know that The Joker is a very dark and psychotic character. Heath stood very true to the character in the comic. I definitely think you guys should check it out.

For awhile now, I have been teaching myself Spanish by way of the NintendoDS. I am progressing quite nicely. It feels real good to launch into an endeavor and succeeding at it. I will update you guys as to my progress as I get deeper into my lessons. That's all I have for you this weekend, chums.

Well I have been doing some investigative work into this new series I want to start soon. I have been really trying to keep busy and stay focus. But you know it gets tough. Don't worry you guys I am eventually going to pull it all together.

Well that's all for now!
