WIP... AFROSoul

Here is a piece that I started working on this past week. It's a little rough, gotta work on the lines some and then I'm going to manipulate the image a whole hell of a lot digitally. Probably in photoshop. I show you guys the finished piece in a week or so... Hopefully😊

That's all for this week.

Until next week...

Rhetorical or Sometimes you feel like a Reeses'

I want to get back in to creating mixed media pieces. Some small assemblage pieces. I have been accumulating little small found pieces and objects lately that I feel fit together quite well. I really want to get back in to the habit of creating art on a regular basis again. I have kind of gotten too comfortable in this lackadaisical way of living, I mean now and then I will doodle or draw a little something but I haven’t done anywhere near a significant body of work in almost 2 years! That’s no way for an artist to live. I mean sure I have faced some hardships and uncertainties but that’s no excuse. Artists are supposed to thrive during adversity. So why haven’t I? That’s a rhetorical question. It was meant to invoke thought in to my head as I type this post.

I tend to get too stuck in a rut or worried up creating the perfect image or crank out the best possible image that I almost entirely forget about the artistic processes. I forget that ugly line or ugly section eventually turns in to something you can use or not. Either way, you go right back to the drawing board (pun, intended) and work on the next thing.

It really all boils down to having confidence in your work. It’s so easy to see other artist out there cranking out work and thinking to yourself, what am I doing wrong or what am I not doing right?? The question should be why am I, not doing PERIOD!!!

I went from consistently coming up with ideas to consistently getting caught up in the idea of not being able to come up with any good ideas. How do you resolve those types of issues in your head when you have other issues going on in your head?

Well that’s all I have for you guys this weekend.

Until next week…

Go BIG...

Lately I have been looking through some of my sketches and some of my smaller works and seeing which ones I would likely possibly blow up in to a bigger painting.

I've been trying to visualize them bigger. Like some of them have aspects of them that work small but if created bigger, would have to be reworked. In a way going bigger will allow to not only recreate the work but also revisit it. Revisiting would then help me to evolve certain parts of the original work.

The first piece that I plan on doing this with is a piece I did a few weeks ago called The Exodus. I've already reworked it once from a pencil sketch to a marker drawing or sketch. I just came up with an idea as I was typing this blog. The next few weeks I'm hoping to have something for you guys to check out.

That's all I have this week.

Until next week...

Golden Goddesses...

Lookie here...lookie here! 2 weeks in a row I have come to you guys to share some new work that I have been working on.

I have been really motivated the last couple of weeks. I have not been questioning anything I have been working on the past few weeks. I have been just rolling with an idea and focusing on getting it done and on to the next one. So without further ado...

New Year...

Hey faithful few...welcome to the year 2014!

So I decided that I would give you guys my main New Years' Resolutions.

  1. I must make sure that I am staying motivated.
  2. I will try to get to know my new city a little better.
  3. I will create more ART
  4. And my last real resolution is; I want to learn Screenprinting.

As you can see, these are pretty simple ones. I don't have anything to extravagant. Plus most resolutions are a gimme; "like get and stay healthy," "do better than you did last year," and "be responsible, financially."

I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys all year. That's all I have for you guys this week.

Until next time...

My Glorious Week or Frantic Ramblings of a Self-Proclaimed Geek...

I know I kind of...sorta promised some more images of the piece that I am working on but I gotta be honest with you guys. After working on it the previous 3 weeks, this past week I didn't even touch it.

Pretty much only thing that I want to do with it, is glaze another coat of paint on it and then finish off the frame. I am hope that I get to it sometime in the next week. I'll probably do another video of the finished piece and post it here and on YouTube. I did start back on a piece that I started a few months ago. I grow tired of staring at it in its unfinished so I have set out to finally finishing. That's another piece I hope to have done in the next couple of weeks.

I have/had a lot on my mind the last couple of weeks. Been getting a little anxious...a little stressed...been sleeping even less than before...It's just a lot of things are coming a head for me and I am both excited and dare I say afraid. It's not a bad thing its actually a good thing. I will be glad when I can share everything with you guys here. Don't worry its coming soon...Don't fret...You will be in the know. Well that's all I have for you guys this week...

Until next time...

I am glad that we have had this journey. And I hope to be with you guys for 300 more posts. This week I have another video for you guys. So I am going to stop typing and allow you guys to enjoy.

The Eye

So this week I present a video for your viewing pleasure. I was a little perturbed at how iMovie was handling my video clips so I abandoned the project and just used YouTube's video editor to put the clips together to make one video. So without further ado...

Tell me a story or The Grass is always greener...

This past week was a pretty bland week for me. I didn't do anything too big the first part of the week but I did put some things into motion the last part of the week. At some point I'll get into it here but not now. Something's are still private after all :) Rest assured though when the world knows you guys will be the first to know.

Other than that its going to stay business as usual for me. I do plan on doing some new painting in the next week or so. I am going to be trying out a new medium. I am plenty excited about that. Well I think that's all I have for you guys this week. Hopefully next week I'll have some images to share with you guys.

Until then...

Chūshō geijutsu or The ZEN approach...

So this past week I have had a lot on my mind. Been dealing with some personal things and the other day they manifested themselves into a work of art. I created piece that I used to clear my head. As I was painting I was allowing the paint to do what it wanted. I was freeing my mind of all thoughts and pouring them onto the canvas.

A sort of darkness emerged but a life can also be seen coming through the darkness...a spark...a light rising...

This was a nice piece for me to do because I had no real expectations of what would come out of doing it. I think I might do this little exercise a lot more. I am including a couple of pics for you guys so you can see what I came up with. Enjoy.

Until next time...

Quick hits...

Hey faithful few, I don't have anything really for you guys this week. I did have a somewhat productive first part of the week in Charlotte though.

At some point in time I will bring you guys some good news going forward. I need to finish this painting that I started about a month ago and haven't worked on in about 3 weeks. I also started working on this panel that I had totally forgotten about. I had worked on half of it, then taped it off and put it to the side. Almost forgot I had it. Those are two pieces I am hoping to finish in the next couple of weeks. I really got to get back into the swing of things.

Until next time my friends...

Projects, projects and more projects...

I have a really busy next couple of week coming up. On Tuesday, I am going to go drop off and hang a piece that I am putting in Maryland Art Place's Out of Order show which is next Friday. I am putting this piece in the show. Hopefully someone takes it home and adds it to their collection:)

I also need to finish this piece that I sold last week. Only thing holding that piece up is adding the background. I have a couple of ideas that I have been tossing around in my head that I am going to play around in photoshop with so as to not make a mark that I don't want to actually add to it...ah the luxuries of digital media!

And finally the last bit of work I need to get cracking on is for the RoCo 6x6x2013 show in Rochester. This is the 6x6 show that I have been doing the past few years. The pieces for this show have to be postmarked by the 20th of April. That should be a series of work to work on. I am thinking about "re-debuting" some new material based on one of my old styles of creating art. Not that I don't work in this manner any longer, it's just that I haven't used the technique in awhile. I feel like its something I want to do because it'll be a good way for me to do a little problem solving. As usual, as I finish them I will post pics for you guys. Until next week...

New WIP...Partie Deux

I have a few more images for you guys of the piece I showed you last week. I still got a little ways to go with this but I still wanted to share.

I had a pretty busy week this week work-wise and today so I didn't have a chance to finish this weeks blog for you guys. Definitely going to get it out there though. I haven't forgotten. Until then...

September......1

It's that time again faithful few...

I deliberated for most of the day as to what I was going to share with you guys this weekend. I did know that I wanted to share the beginning stages of a painting that I am working on for this contest. So far I have started blocking in the colors and the composition of the piece. Hopefully next week I'll have some updated images for you guys. It's my first time working in oils in a while so I am pretty excited about working on it. I still feel like I might change a lot on it but I'm still pretty stoked about the direction it is going in.
What else do I have for you guys...lets see, we'll this is the first post of September and it seems really weird that its almost the end of the year. It feels like it was just March. If things are the way they would have us to believe we have about 80 days left to live. So lets make the most of it. ;) I think that's all I have for this week because I feel like I might start spurting out more gibberish. See you guys next week.

New work coming soon...

I have a piece that I am about to start for work that I am slightly excited about doing. The excitement comes from knowing that it will be an oil painting. It been a long time since I've worked in oils, so I am looking forward to it.

What am I going to do you might ask? Well I thought I would keep that slightly secretive. I know what I want to do but I am still deliberating on whether that's what I want to do. I have a predetermined pallet that I personally chose for doing what I initially thought of doing but you know sometimes in art the work decides it wants to be something else...we shall see what I come up with.

This week coming up I want take a trip south to DC to do a little photography work, which may or may not end up in this piece that I am about to start. Again, we shall see...don't you just love the uncertainty that art can create...As always, when I know, you guys will know.

New work...

Hello faithful few... I have begun a painting which over a series of weeks,  I will continue to build up layers on.  This painting,  which every time I add a layer to,  I will share with you guys.  I will incorporate you the faithful few into the actual process.  I will turn you guys into my actual piece.  I don't quite understand yet where you guys will fit in.  My thinking behind this piece is using my blog,  the blogosphere and my work in a progression of documentated images and written statements to you guys.  Whereas I could video myself creating this piece or I could just post a picture of every time I add to it but I want to engage you the viewer as I am adding layers. I want to make it feels as though you are not just seeing what I am doing as I add layers but have you visually involved in a way that I am creating this for you guys.

Where the piece goes will be determined solely on how I feel like presenting it to you guys.   Now you might say how is that different from me posting a picture of what I am working on now or in the past.  Well as the weeks come and go it will all seem clearer.  I look forward to working with you guys;)

Hello faithful few. I am feeling under the weather this week so i am not going to say too much this weekend. I am however going to show you guys what I have been working on the last couple of weeks. The progression of the images go from top to bottom, almost like a state of undress...Enjoy!
